Legislation: For the purpose of establishing the Task Force to Implement Holocaust, Genocide, Human Rights, and Tolerance Education; providing for the membership of the Task Force; requiring the Governor to designate the chair of the Task Force; requiring the University System of Maryland to provide staff for the Task Force; prohibiting a member of the Task Force from receiving compensation; authorizing a member of the Task Force to be reimbursed for certain expenses; establishing the duties of the Task Force; requiring the Task Force to submit certain reports; providing for the termination of this Act; and generally relating to the Task Force to Implement Holocaust, Genocide, Human Rights, and Tolerance Education at the University System of Maryland. (Effective October 1, 2005, Termination October 30, 2008)

ACADEMIC STANDARDS

Voluntary State Curriculum: High School United States History (2006):

Expectation 5.3: Students will demonstrate understanding of the cultural, economic, political, social and technological developments from 1929-1945.
The United States in a Time of Crisis (1929-1945)
2. Analyze the causes of World War II in Europe and the Pacific and the involvement of the United States in the war (5.3.2).
e. Investigate the response of the United States government to the discovery of the Holocaust and immigration policies with respect to refugees.

These standards are optional in Maryland.
